Romanian Wages Growing By 20-25% Not Feasible – Romanian IMF Representative

Salary and pension raises in Romania will continue to be tied to the economy’s evolution, but 20-25% increases, like in 2006 and 2007, are not feasible, according to Mihai Tanasescu, Romania’s representative to the International Monetary Fund.

Speaking on Romanian television station ProTV, Tanasescu said salaries and pensions should grow, as long as the wage system is put under „better discipline.”

He added that if the economy begins to grow next year, so will salaries and pensions, although not by 20-25% like in previous years. „Such growths are not sustainable, they cannot lead to consolidation,” Tanasescu said.
