Bucharest mayor Sorin Oprescu said a budget revision was necessary due to “works conducted one year, one year and a half ago.”

The local budget’s revision also includes spending cuts of RON142,020,000, of which nearly RON20 million will be cut from theaters, museums, the Bucharest Administration of Lakes, Parks and Leisure Activities, the Administration of Cemeteries and the city zoo.

Bucharest institutions financed entirely from the state budget, including the City Hall and the Roads Administration, will see a RON100 million cut in spending.

The revision also stipulates RON165 million additional expenses, of which nearly RON40 million are meant to compensate increased prices for heat.

The budgets of institutions entirely financed from their own resources and the budget of non-reimbursable foreign funds remain unchanged.

Bucharest’s 2008 budget included total funds of some RON1.3 billion. The bulk of the funds went to road infrastructure and public transportation.
