Romania’s economy contracted 0.6% of GDP in the third quarter because of decreases in construction and trade, according to the country’s statistics institute. However, the contraction was milder than the expected 0.7%.
For 2010, Romania’s Prognosis Commission and the International Monetary Fund, which is leading a EUR19.5 billion rescue loan for the country, forecast economic growth of 0.5%.
In a more optimistic scenario, Romania’s central bank deputy governor said recently the country’s economy could grow 1.5% of GDP next year.
