"We are in a close collaboration with the states involved in this difficult situation so as to free the kidnapped people. During my visit to New York, I have had talks with the Italian and the German foreign affairs ministers. We will inform the public on the evolution of the situation when significant changes come up,” Comanescu told MEDIAFAX.

Comanescu attended the 63rd session of the General Meeting of the United Nations in New York.

A Sudanese spokesperson, cited by Reuters, said the kidnappers took the 11 foreign tourists, including the Romanian citizen, to Libya.

Egypt is in direct negotiations with the kidnappers, and the latter are optimistic with regard to a very soon a “positive result”, Egyptian Governmental sources said Thursday.

The Romanian Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE) does not confirm or deny the presence of the kidnapped group in Libya, the ministry told MEDIAFAX Thursday, adding that no “evolution of the situation has arisen that needs to be made public”.

MAE added Romanian authorities closely cooperate with the Egyptian, German and Italian authorities to free the kidnapped.
