Pro TV News Romania Wins First News Emmy Ever For Eastern Europe

Pro TV News was at its second International Emmy nomination, competing against Brazil’s Tv Globo with "Journal Nacional - TAM Accident", Al Jazeera English of Qatar with "Al Jazeera English Kuala Lumpur News Hour - Popular Uprising in Myanmar & Military Crackdown" and ITV News produced by ITN for ITV 1 of the U.K., with "ITV News - Zimbabwe - The Tyranny and the Tragedy".

In 2007, Pro TV News earned a nomination for “Tibetans at Chinese Borders" by cameraman Sergiu Matei.

Launched on June 1, 2007, the campaign “Any Idea of What Your Kid is Doing Right Now?” raised awareness on children whose parents had left the country work abroad. Left alone and ignored by authorities, children go silently through dramas, depicted by reporters Paula Herlo and Cosmin Stan and cameraman Sergiu Matei.

The International Emmys were presented to the winners by Bruce L. Paisner, President & CEO of The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences in New York City on September 22, 2008.

Founded in 1969, the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences is the largest organization of global broadcasters, with members from over 65 countries and over 400 companies. The Academy was chartered with a mission to recognize excellence in television programming produced outside of the United States, and it presents the International Emmy Award to programs in fifteen categories: Arts Programming; Best Performance by an Actress; Best Performance by an Actor; Children & Young People; Comedy; Current Affairs; Documentary; Drama Series; Non-Scripted Entertainment; News; Interactive Channel; Interactive Program; Interactive TV Service; Telenovela; TV Movie/Mini-Series.

Nominees for ten other International Emmy Awards categories will be announced October 13 at MIPCOM in Cannes, France. Winners will receive their awards at the 36th International Emmy Awards Gala, November 24, in New York City.
