Geoana said this type of protocol reflects the lessons the two parties have learned from their previous collaboration. He emphasized that this time, the team is “a political alliance, a powerful force”, whose aim is to win the parliamentary elections in 2008 and to form a government led by this alliance.
The social democrat leader said no agreement is “an absolute insurance policy”, adding that in the two parties’ previous collaboration, president Traian Basescu likely blackmailed conservatives into joining the government with liberals and democrats.
Conservative leader Daniela Popa said the protocol of the political alliance will be registered in court within 15 days.
She added the protocol sets joint leading structures, a national standing delegation to include seven members from each party, and a college of presidents, to include party presidents and a member of each of the parties.
The parties’ political programs will also be combined.
