Romania Presidential Election Voter Turnout At 40.10% By GMT1400

Turnout was of 37.51% in urban areas and 43.66% in rural areas.

In capital Bucharest, voter turnout by GMT1400 was of 38.05%.

Also by GMT1400, 429,290 people voted in the 3,359 number of polling stations set up countrywide for people outside their are of residence on election day.

About 18 million Romanian eligible voters are expected to cast ballots Sunday to elect their president for the next five years and will choose between incumbent President Traian Basescu and social democrat Mircea Geoana.
