EXCLUSIVE: Romania Plans Drastic Cut In Healthcare Spending By 2013

The strategy estimates the Health Ministry’s total spending will amount to RON5,081 million in 2010, or 0.99% of the gross domestic product, and spending is to decrease sharply over the next three years.

Spending is seen dropping to RON1,829 million in 2011 (0.34% of GDP), RON1,783 million in 2012 (0.30% of GDP) and reach RON1,842 million in 2013 (0.28% of GDP), according to the Government’s fiscal strategy, obtained by MEDIAFAX.

Staff spending at the Health Ministry is seen at RON224 million this year but changes will not be significant for the following three years. Staff spending is estimated at RON205 million in 2011, RON211 million in 2011 and RON219 million in 2013.

Investment spending is seen at RON293 million this year (0.06% of GDP) and is set to drop to RON189 million in 2011, RON124 million in 2012 and rise again to RON165 million in 2013.
