"Of course there are effects (of utility price hikes – e.n.), and energy prices have an impact on everything from cereal crops to shelf prices. The consumer feels the impact from the entire chain,” Minea said.

Natural gas prices will increase an average 12.5%, while electricity prices will increase an average 5.3% as of July 1.

Companies in the milling and bakery industry will have no reasons to increase prices by autumn this year, as processors start working with wheat from the new crop, which should normally be cheaper, said Aurel Popescu, head of the employers association in the industry, Rompan.

"We shouldn’t see any price hikes in milling and bakery until October,” Popescu said.
