„The global economic crisis has affected every field of activity, including tourism. Romanian tourism employers are concerned with the efficient management of business in this field, business marred by the crisis’ effects, devoting significant funds to marketing activities. Our efforts must, however, be matched by governmental efforts, given that tourism brings revenue to local communities and the state budget,” the FPTR says in a press release.
The union argues that every country in the region, which offers touristic products which compete with Romania’s, has increased the budgets dedicated to tourism promotion, while in Romania this budget has decreased by 31% compared to 2009.
„Actually, Romania’s tourism promotion budget, which is EUR5 million in 2010, is almost nonexistent, when we compare it to that of other countries. Greece has a coastline with which we are struggling to compete and has allocated EUR57.8 million to promote it this year; Austria has ski destinations with which we would like to compete and has allotted EUR32 million from its budget to promote them,” the press release says.
