Those who gave their assent to having their organs removed after death will be registered in the national registry of donors.
Without an organ donation agreement, organ or tissue harvesting is permitted if at least one member of the family of the deceased gives his/her written agreement to the procedure.
Organ and tissue removal from a living person, who gave his/her written consent to the donation, is permitted only if the donor is of sound mind.
Organ transplantation may be financed with funds from the national social health insurance fund, the Health Ministry, from donations and sponsorship or with the recipient’s own resources.
Buying and selling human organs is forbidden.
The norms to apply the organ donation and use Code will be approved through a Government decision.
The new healthcare bill was put up for public debate Wednesday on the Health Ministry’s website, www.ms.ro.
