Romanian Integrity Agency Resorts To Fines For Failure To Declare Wealth

Romania’s National Integrity Agency (ANI), an institution in charge with checking the correctness of wealth statements submitted by dignitaries, fined public servants and police officers who failed to submit their statements of interest and wealth within the deadline, a press release of the agency read.

Each fine reached 500 lei (EUR1-RON3.5023).
Under Law 144/2007 on the setting up, organization and functioning of the National Integrity Agency, the statements of interest and wealth must be submitted within 15 days upon being appointed in a position or starting the professional activity. The people in question are obliged to submit or update their statements of interest and wealth on an annul basis, until June 15 the latest for the previous fiscal year.
Failure to submit the statements of interest and wealth within the deadline is seen as contravention and is punished with fines ranging from RON100 to RON500.
Official sources said each institution designated its own team to check the submission of interest and wealth statements.
The agency previously requested these teams to provide information on the public servants who failed to submit their statements within deadline and its inspectors subsequently fined the people in question and stared thorough checkups.
