At least half of eligible voters must cast ballots for the referendum to be validated.

Romanians cast ballots Sunday to elect a new president and say whether they want the country’s Parliament downsized to a single chamber and a maximum 300 lawmakers instead of the current 471.

Of the voters, 441,989 cast ballots in special polling stations for people outside their area of residence on election day.
