Romania Referendum Voter Turnout At 50.16% By GMT1900

Voter turnout for the national referendum to reform the Parliament was of 50.16% by GMT1900, when polls closed, the Central Electoral Bureau said.

Turnout was of 48.14% in urban areas and 52.93% in rural areas.

Referendum voter turnout in capital Bucharest was of 46.02% by GMT1900.

At least half of eligible voters must cast ballots for the referendum to be validated.

Romanians cast ballots Sunday to elect a new president and say whether they want the country’s Parliament downsized to a single chamber and a maximum 300 lawmakers instead of the current 471.

Of the voters, 441,989 cast ballots in special polling stations for people outside their area of residence on election day.
