Romanian President Calls Parliament Parties For Talks Wednesday
Basescu had a first round of talks Tuesday with liberals, representatives of national minorities, the Hungarian minority party and democrat liberals, while social democrats declined the head of state’s invitation saying they first want to have talks with the other parliamentary parties.
Liberals proposed the appointment of Klaus Johannis, mayor of the central city of Sibiu, for prime minister, a proposition endorsed by all other parties except the Democratic Liberal Party, who proposed Boc. People close to the matter said Basescu told democrat liberals he will certainly not appoint a prime minister who has just lost a confidence vote.
Romanian daily Gandul reported Wednesday in its online edition that democrat liberals are considering proposing Lucian Croitoru, adviser to the central bank governor, for prime minister. Croitoru declined to comment.
