Tariceanu said Friday he would talk with economy experts on measures to limit the effects of the international financial crisis, adding that "some matters" are currently analyzed and that economic incentives might be needed.

"Increasing salaries by 50% from one day to another is not sustainable from an economic point of view, and will lead to a crisis, as other state budget employees will request similar increases. It will finally lead to an economic disaster,” Tariceanu said.

Tariceanu said it is his obligation as the head of the government to signal that such increases might throw the economy into chaos.

He reiterated that Romania is not very affected by the financial crisis, but he does not want to minimize this situation.

“We cannot be an island of performance in an ocean of disaster,” he said on the matter on Thursday.

Tariceanu also said that Romanian authorities are already analyzing a set of measures to reduce the effects of the global financial crisis.
