Electricity household prices will rise by maximum 9% as of July 1, sources close to Romanian energy watchdog ANRE, said Wednesday.

"It will be a one-digit hike," the sources said.

ANRE officials could not be contacted for statements.

ANRE deputy head Nicolae Opris reiterated in April that electricity household prices will rise starting July 1, without giving further details.

The latest electricity price hike, of 4%, was operated on April 1, 2007.

Electricity prices for captive users, including the population and small industrial users, are usually evaluated twice a year.

Nevertheless, ANRE can make such evaluations several times a year if power producers ask for a price increase or in case of unpredictable situations, like drought or lower power quantities.

Romania’s energy watchdog ANRE is also expected to raise gas prices by less than 20% come Jul 1.
