Romanian Forest Fund Up 0.9% To 6.48M Ha In ‘07

Romanian forest fund totaled 6.48 million hectares in 2007, up 0.9% from a year before, mostly due to the transfer of some wooded grazing lands into the forest fund, the National Statistical Institute, or INS, said Friday.

The volume of cut wood was 9.9% higher in 2007, to 17.28 million cubic meters compared with a year before.

The forest regeneration cuts were down 2.2% in 2007 compared with a year before.

Northeastern Romania accounts for the highest wood volume cuts in 2007 with a 28.3%, followed by central Romania with a 23.4%, northwestern Romania with a 13.5%, western Romania with 11.6%, southern Romania with 9.2%, southwestern Romania with 7.3%, southeastern Romania with 6.7%, while the capital city Bucharest and Ilfov county ranks last with a 0.1%.

The forestations were down 31% in 2007, to 10,716 hectares compared with 2006.

Northeastern Romania accounts for the largest forestations in 2007, with 21.8%, followed by the central Romania with 17.3%, southeastern Romania with 15%, southern Romania with 14.9%, northwestern Romania with 12.5%, western Romania with 10.6%, southwestern Romania with 7.7%, while the capital city Bucharest and Ilfov county ranks last with a 0.2%.
