The role of the state in overcoming the crisis is considered decisive, but there is ample distrust in the government’s ability to find solutions to get the economy working. On the other hand, the central bank, through governor Mugur Isarescu, has people’s confidence and is perceived as the only institution that considers Romanians’ interests and acts accordingly, GfK said in a press release Wednesday.

The company unfolded a syndicated survey to determine changes of attitude in Romanian consumers, which it launched in June 2009. The survey integrates data from three sources: a sample of consumers, a qualitative and a quantitative research.

The survey indicates Romanians are concerned this year mainly about the fact that they might lose their job and won’t be able to pay their debts rather than living standards and increased everyday comfort, as last year.
