Three Romanian Tourists, Among Casualties In Egypt Bus Crash

Romanian consul to Egypt, Marian Stan, said the three Romanians were part of a group of tourists who reached Egypt via Paralela 45 travel agency.

Stan said the two survivors were committed to the international hospital in Sharm el-Sheikh, stressing their condition is stable.

The bus was carrying 40 people including European and Canadian tourists when it burst a tire, overturned and caught fire while travelling from the Sinai resort of Sharm el-Sheikh to Cairo about 70 kilometres south of Suez.

Nine people were killed and at least 28 injured, among whom Russians, Egyptians, Britons, Canadians, Italians, Romanians and Ukrainians.

The bodies of the nine people killed are said to be badly burned, as are many of the injured, who were taken to hospitals in Sharm el-Sheikh.

Each year about 6,000 people die and 30,000 are injured in road accidents in Egypt.
