Japan’s SEWS To Shut Dn Polish Plant, Transfer Prod In Romania

Japanese auto cable maker Sumitomo Electric Wiring Systems (SEWS) will close down a factory in Poland and will transfer its production to the units it owns in Romania, Monday said Florin Ionut, economic manager and administrator of SEWS Romania.

SEWS Polska (SEWSP), the Polish subsidiary of Japanese company SEWS, owns three factories in Poland, respectively in the towns of Leszno, Zywiec and Rawicz. The last one, producing wirings mainly for carmaker Toyota, will be shut down and the production will be transferred to the Romanian units in September-October period.
 
"We will not build a new factory here (in Romania- e.n.)," Ionut said.
 
The Japanese company owns three plants in Romania, respectively in the towns of Deva, Orastie and Arad.
 
The plant in Rawicz currently employs 1,200 people, out of which 300 will be transferred to the factory in Leszno that already employs around 1,000 persons.
 
Ionut could not specify the number of jobs that will be created in the Romanian factories once with transferring the production from Rawicz.
