Against the US dollar, the leu’s indicative gained 0.85% on the day to 2.9553 units, the strongest rate in one year.
The leu was higher against the euro in early trade Friday, with dealers suspecting covert interventions in the market from the central bank to support the national currency.
It opened at 4.1625 to the euro, from 4.175/4.176 to the euro at Thursday’s closing.
Later, the leu lost part of its early gains and traded at 4.1675/4.1685 per euro at around GMT1100.
On the money market Friday morning, overnight rates fell to 2.4%-2.9% a year, from 2.6%-3.1% a year a day earlier.
