Maries stressed his protest is meant to bring out the truth and clear out the events that occurred 20 years ago.
Therefore, Maries called on the head of state to intervene in declassifying all documents that contain information on the Revolution in 1989 and miners’ riots back in 1990.
Furthermore, he said he wants the head of state to mediate the conflict between the association he represents, the Romanian government and the High Council of Magistrates, which started, according to Maries, after the association won a trial at the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) and the magistrates in Strasbourg requested the Romanian authorities to put the respective files at their disposal. Maries also stressed the conflict fails to observe the dispositions of the ECHR.
The Bucharest mayoralty did not allow Maries to protest in front of Cotroceni palace. Maries, however, said he did not even need an authorization to stage protests, adding he previously notified both the mayoralty and the gendarmes in this respect.
