Environment Ministry: 2018 Was The Third Hottest Year Since Measurements Began In 1901
The average air temperature recorded in 2018 was 1,35°C above the average registered between 1981 and 2010.
“As we expected, here we see 2018 directly in the top three of the hottest years ever recorded. We have new proof showing us that climate change is one of the biggest threats humanity is facing. At the same time, it becomes even clearer that we must strive for a balance between the needs of communities and the need to live on a healthy planet,” Environment Minister Gratiela Gavrilescu said in a ministry statement.
The hottest year recorded in Romania was 2015, with a median of 11.72°C, followed by 2007 (11.67°C). Nine of the top ten hottest years since 1901 were registered between 2000 and 2018.
April 2018 was also the hottest month of April on record since measurements began.
