Romanian Govt Sent Car Tax Ordinance To European Commission

The Romanian government sent the European Commission Tuesday the text of the emergency ordinance introducing the new car pollution tax, approved Monday, along the annexes setting the new car tax calculation method, people close to the matter told MEDIAFAX Wednesday.

"The government informed the European Commission that it adopted the ordinance immediately after the government meeting Monday, and sent the full text to the commission on Tuesday,” they said.

The Romanian government approved Monday the emergency ordinance introducing the pollution tax for cars to replace the current tax perceived upon the first registration of cars.

The new tax takes effect starting Jul 1, 2008 and will be calculated for the technical data of each particular car depending on carbon dioxide and other noxious emissions.
