Romanian Unionists To Picket Health Ministry Thursday, More Protests Forthcoming

Around 200 members of the Romanian “Sanitas” Federation of healthcare unions will picket the headquarters of the Health Ministry on Thursday, in protest to salary cuts and problems with the decentralization process.

The Federation’s National Council will meet Thursday morning to analyze the impact of the 25% salary cut and evaluate the problems with the decentralization of healthcare units, the union said in a press release Wednesday. During the meeting, the unionists will also decide on a calendar of future actions.

After the Council, the unionists will protest between 1 and 3 pm before the Health Ministry.

In August, the Federation warned that it would hold a rally and march in Bucharest on September 22, with the participation of around 10,000 unionists, in protest to the healthcare sector’s wage cuts. „Sanitas” also said it would collect the signatures of its 120,000 members to take the state to court.
