Over 100 Towns Affected by Flooding Throughout Romania

More than 100 Romanian towns in 24 counties were affected by flooding in the past 24 hours, with 171 people evacuated preventively, following significant bouts of heavy rain throughout most of country.

According to the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU), 250 houses and 440 courtyards were flooded throughout the past 24 hours, as firefighters enter a fifth consecutive day of interventions to fight the effects of flooding.

Two people who were surprised by flash floods were rescued by military firefighters during the aforementioned period.

165 people were evacuated from the town of Corod, Galati county, due to a significant increase in water flow on a local creek, while traffic was restricted on three national roads on Monday due to flooding.

IGSU representatives warned citizens to abstain from crossing rivers through the water or coming close to shores, because of the risk of flash floods forming.
