Rieker Closes Shoe Factory In Lugoj, About 700 Employees To Be Laid Off
Approximately 700 employees of the Rieker footwear factory in Lugoj, Timis county will be laid off after the factory will close this spring, the Timis Territorial Labor Inspectorate (ITM) announced on Tuesday.

ITM Timis chief Pavel Kasai told MEDIAFAX that the company notified that it will close the factory and lay off all of its personnel in the following period.
“We received a notification regarding the laying off of a total number of 663 employees. The factory will close in the following period, we do not know the reasons,” the ITM Timis chief said.
Swiss retailer Rieker opened the Lugoj factory in 1998, focused on manufacturing footwear for the Western European market.
