Romania’s Romtelecom To Launch Mobile Telephony Service By Yearend

Romania's largest hard-line operator RomTelecom, majority-owned by Hellenic Telecommunications Organization SA, or OTE, won the license and will launch its mobile telephony services by yearend, the company’s general manager, Yorgos Ioannidis, said Thursday.

Romanian communications and IT authority said Monday that Romtelecom was the winner of the bid for the new mobile telephony services license.

Ioannidis also said the new services will not compete with the services of mobile telephony operator Cosmote Romania, in which Romtelecom owns a 30% stake.

OTE owns a 54.01% stake in Romtelecom and fully controls Cosmote.
