Romanian Social Democrats Maintain Stance, “UDMR Is Not Necessary”

The leader of the Romanian social democrats, Mircea Geoana said Saturday evening, after negotiations with the democrat liberals, that the positions received by the local Magyar minority party are a PDL concern and the social democrats will not surrender any of their due positions in the next government.

Asked about the positions that the Democratic Union of Magyars in Romania will receive in the next government, Geoana said: "It is a concern of the democrat liberals; we said we don’t see how a political third would be necessary."

"PDL has the liberty to strike a bargain with UDMR as they see fit," Geoana added, thus answering a question on the possibility for PDL to surrender its positions to UDMR, following the division of positions in the next government.
