By sector, the adjusted industrial output in the manufacturing industry rose 1.7% on the month in October. Adjusted for the number of working days and seasonality, output in the mining industry increased by 0.5% compared with September, whereas the energy industry production fell 3% on the month.
Compared with October 2008, adjusted industrial output was down 1.5% in October, driven by a 15.8% decline in the mining industry and a 2.3% fall in the manufacturing industry.
However, adjusted output in the energy industry was up 8.8% on the year in October.
In unadjusted data, the industrial output fell 2.7% on the year in October. Unadjusted output in the mining industry was down 12.9% in October compared with the corresponding month a year earlier, while manufacturing output dropped 3.3%.
The unadjusted energy industry production rose 9.5% in October compared with the same month a year before.
In the first ten months of 2009, Romania’s unadjusted industrial production fell 7.9% on the year. Adjusted for the number of working days and seasonality, the industry output fell by a similar 7.8% on the year in January-October.
