Romania Jobless Rate Falls To 7.7% In May

The country’s employment agency ANOFM said the total number of jobless people reached 701,854 in May, compared with 738,187 the month before.

In May 2009, the unemployment rate was at 5.7%.

Despite the decreases in the last months, the jobless rate is expected to rise further in 2010 due to planned government cuts in the public sector to help lower the country’s budget deficit to 6.8% of the gross domestic product from 7.4% a year earlier.
