Romania 11-Mo New Car Sales Dn 10.4% YY To 257,941 Units
In November, new car sales fell roughly 51.1% on the year to 14,466 units, APIA said.
It said local production reached 227,304 units in the first eleven months, up 5.5% from 215,521 cars in the corresponding period a year earlier.
In November, however, local production saw a 41% drop to 14,160 units from 24,036 units manufactured in November 2007.
Romania’s overall auto industry (cars, light vehicles and buses) was down 7.4% in the first eleven months to 308,984 units from 333,604 units in the similar period of 2007.
In November, the overall industry dropped 51.2% to 16,745 units from 34,356 units in the same month of 2007.
The Romanian car industry took a severe hit over the past months, while Dacia had to halt production thrice so far on falling demand.
Job losses and activity shutdown for car parts suppliers are further effects of the economic crisis in the auto industry.
Early December, the Romanian government decided to triple the pollution tax on used cars to boost new car sales and aid the local auto industry.
