Romania’s May Net Salary Down 0.6% M-M To RON1,428

The gross average salary was at RON1,962 in May, down 0.6% compared with the previous month.

In May, the net salary was lower compared with a month earlier, when employees were given occasional loyalty bonuses and a higher output was reported. Moreover, salaries dropped on the month in May due to furlough and companies’ financial difficulties.

Employees in the brokerage sector saw the biggest average net salaries iin May, of RON3,783, while employees in the hotel and restaurants business were at the opposite pole, with RON792.

The net average salary in agriculture was down 0.6% on the month in May, at RON1,027, while employees in the energy sector saw a 2.2% salary increase on the month in May, to RON2,652.

Net salaries in the industry sector averaged RON1,233 in May, up 0.7% from April.

Employees in the tobacco manufacturing industry saw a 11.4% salary rise on the month in May, at RON3,126.

The average net salary in Romania rose 5.3% on the year in May.
