Romania Acting Econ Min: Creating Just One Energy Holding Is A Mistake
Establishing just a single national power holding, as sustained by some political leaders, would be "an incredible error," Romania’s acting Economy Minister Adriean Videanu said Thursday.

The government plans to reorganize the energy production by setting up two national power holdings to include assets of all state-run energy companies.
"Through the creation of two national power holdings, nobody loses and the energy sector wins. Creating a single energy holding (…) would be an incredible error. I wish the politics would have the smallest possible role in energy issues," Videanu said during the reopening of a hydropower plant on Olt River.
Romanian state-owned hydropower generator Hidroelectrica Thursday put back in function its 57-MW hydropower plant in Ipotesti, Olt county, southern Romania, after an EUR65 million upgrade program.
The upgrade of the unit in Ipotesti is part of a larger investment program worth EUR350 million aiming to modernize five hydropower plants on the inferior segment of Olt, namely Ipotesti, Draganesti, Frunzaru, Rusanesti and Izbiceni.
The unit in Ipotesti is the first fully-upgraded hydropower plant among the five units.
