Romania, Bulgaria’s Schengen Entry To Be Discussed Wednesday, Vote To Be Again Put Off – Sources
According to the sources, talks on the two states’ Schengen entry might be resumed in February 2012.
As the Netherlands still opposes Romania and Bulgaria’s accession to the border-free area, the Polish Presidency of the European Union will not put the matter to the vote to avoid a negative decision, which would entail resuming a part of the Schengen accession legal procedures.
A decision on Romania and Bulgaria’s Schengen was postponed in September, when the Polish Presidency of the EU did not put the matter to the vote to avoid a negative result, as the Netherlands and Finland opposed the two countries’ entry.
Bulgarian public television BNT said recently, cited by Sofia Echo, that a project regarding Romania and Bulgaria’s Schengen entry in stages will be discussed by the JHA Council on December 14.
