Boc highlighted that the results of the restructuring process carried out in the field must be analyzed in order to determine the number of vacant positions that can be filled and to resume employment in the healthcare sector.
People close to the matter told MEDIAFAX Monday that the Romanian Government firmly rejected the health minister's request to unfreeze thousands of jobs in the healthcare system. They said Health Minister Cseke Attila also requested doctors' salaries be increased under the country's new unitary wage law in the public sector.
Cseke last week confirmed that he had requested the Government unfreeze the jobs in the healthcare system that must be urgently filled, adding at the time, that a decision could be made by the Executive the following week. Cseke also said at the time that an unfreezing of every job is unlikely given the economic situation, but that hiring could be unfrozen for at least a few thousand crucial positions.
Hiring in the sector was halted on January 1, 2009 and the number of employees has been on the decline since. Hospital managers have repeatedly warned that because of the staff shortage, medical assistants are unable to cope with the large number of people who need care.
