Romania’s Health Ministry on Saturday confirmed a new infection with the AH1N1 flu virus, taking the number of cases in the country to thirteen.

The patient is a 34-year old woman who arrived on June 10 from Canada along with her husband whose flu diagnosis was confirmed Friday, June 12, by the Romanian Cantacuzino Institute.
The 37-year old man was hospitalized at the “Matei Bals” infectious diseases hospital. The epidemiological investigation revealed the man got in contact with four members of his family who are currently kept under medical supervision and receive antiviral medicine.
Nine of the thirteen people infected with the AH1N1 virus have already been released from hospital.
Romanian health minister Ion Bazac on Friday underscored Romania does not register cases of widespread infections, adding that, apart from basic hygienic rules, Romanians need not make any changes in their daily lives.
Bazac mentioned masks will be distributed to border police and doctors who come in contact with people coming in from some of the states most affected by the new virus, such as the U.S., Canada and Mexico.
On Thursday, WHO officially declared the swine flu a pandemic, raising the alert to the highest level of six.
The organization declared the first influenza pandemic in 41 years, after the infections with new H1H1 flu virus climbed to 27,737 cases in 74 countries and left 141 people dead.
