Lawmakers voted in favor of renaming Florin Georgescu first deputy governor and appointed Cristian Popa and Bodgan Olteanu as deputy governors.

The central bank’s Board will also include members Nicolae Danila, Napoleon Pop, Agnes Nagy, Dinu Marin and Virgil Stoenescu.

Isarescu was named governor of Romania’s central bank BNR in September 1990, a position he has held ever since with only a brief interruption while he served as prime minister (between December 1999 and December 2000).

He was credited for keeping the central bank outside political interferences, as well as for leading the bank with a steady hand.
