Udrea stressed that she asked all politicians in public office to discard all contracts with the investment company, otherwise, she will personally terminate the respective contracts. She added she will call on the ruling Democratic Liberal Party, of which she is a member, to force its members to choose between public office and their business.
Udrea reminded that the programs unfolded via the investment company were closed at the beginning of 2010 and also explained that the program meant to build swimming pools and skating rinks was suspended, while the program meant to build gyms was reorganized so as to carry on only construction works set off last year. Asked what would happen with the company's staff, Udrea said that, following a recent audit, the number of employees was to be reduced to 100, from nearly 150 people.
CNI is a joint-stock company established back in 2001 and subordinated to the country's Regional Development and Tourism Ministry. CNI unfolds programs of public or social interest in the field of constructions, in accordance with the ministry's strategy and the local public authorities are the main beneficiaries of these programs.
Udrea also said Tuesday that she will ask the party's standing office to adopt a decision whereby democrat liberals in public office should choose between holding these positions and running businesses. Udrea stressed that ruling democrat liberals should be the first to set an example and show solidarity with all Romanians who were asked to make sacrifices at difficult times.
The Romanian Government has pledged to drastically cut public spending to tighten the country's budget deficit at 6.8% of GDP, in order for the International Monetary Fund and other international institutions to release a new installment of a EUR20 billion rescue loan agreed last year.
