Romania Economic Outlook Improves For 2nd Month In Sept - Survey

The ZEW-Erste Group Bank economic sentiment indicator for Central and Eastern Europe showed the outlook on Romania's economic climate increased by 7.8 points to 30 in September, the second consecutive growth.

In August, economic expectations rose 29 points to 22.2, according to the survey. The indicator is the ratio between favorable and negative answers of the questioned analysts.

However, the outlook on Romania's current business climate is still negative, standing at minus 52.9 points, despite a significant improvement in September compared with August.

The analysts expect inflation and short-term interest rates to decrease over the next six months, but point to a depreciation of Romania's currency leu against the euro.

In Central and Eastern Europe, economic expectations on a six-month horizon rose 2.8 points to 38.8 in September, with nearly half of the polled analysts forecasting economic improvement.

Nevertheless, the current economic situation in the region remains clearly negative, at minus 47.3 points.

ZEW-Erste Group Bank's survey includes responses from analysts in Croatia, Romania, Poland, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Hungary.
