Romania Extends List Of People To Receive Damages For Former Deposits At CEC

The Romanian authorities on Wednesday expanded the list of eligible persons to receive damages for their deposits at the savings bank Casa de Economii si Consemnatiuni, or CEC, in view of purchasing cars, regardless of the make.

The government set the overall ceiling for damages at EUR214.2 million.

Authorities also decided to extend the time limit for the deposits to be compensated, from November 1, 1990 to February 15, 1992.

The current law, which was approved in May this year, stipulates that the damages are to be granted under the form of state bonds.

The state bonds have maturities ranging between one and two years and will be granted in the first half of 2008.
