Romania Farming Agency Paid RON642M To Farmers
Romania's Farming Agency for Payments and Intervention in Agriculture (APIA) paid 642.3 million lei (EUR1=RON4.2648) to beneficiaries of the Single Area Payment Scheme (SAPS), the 70% downpayment of the approved amount, the institution announced Tuesday.

According to APIA, 496,519 farmers who fulfilled the conditions imposed by European regulations received the financial support.
The downpayment is set at RON209.98 per hectare. The total amount of single farm payments is set at EUR71.12 per hectare.
As part of the SAPS 2009 campaign, Romania receives EUR623.3 million in European Agricultural Guarantee Fund money, as well as money from the state budget and the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development. APIA reported 1.12 million applications in SAPS 2009.
In 2009, APIA paid over RON1.9 billion (around EUR528.5 million) to 1,082,942 farmers who applied for SAPS 2008 and RON11.9 million (around EUR3.5 million) to 3,848 farmers, as part of the SAPS 2007 campaign.
