The nearly 100 km railway section goes through counties Mures, Sibiu and Alba and the works should be completed next year. The railway section is part of the line connecting Brasov in central Romania to the country's border with Hungary.

Following upgrades, trains should be able to run at speeds of 120-160 km/hour, reducing travel time between Sighisoara and Coslariu to half.
