Romanian President Traian Basescu said Thursday that the Romanian Government plans to maintain the measure to cut public pensions by 15% until the end of 2010.

Basescu added the country needs EUR2.2 billion to pay public pensions at their current level and stressed Romania only has EUR1.7 billion.

The head of state underscored that the country's public pension system faces a financial deadlock, on lack of funds.
