The financial aid is meant to improve public order in the territory, support road police and criminal investigations, Comanescu said during an international conference in Berlin.

Romania plans to further support Palestinian authorities in 2009 and 2010, by offering technical assistance in fields such as crisis management, public order, forensics, informational technology etc., the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

“Middle East is among Romania’s priorities and we wish to restore the strong ties we had in the region as soon as possible; Romania can now participate in regional projects via the European Union and the European Strategy for Middle East,” Comanescu said.

Romania’s Foreign Ministry plans to render operational a Representation Office in Ramallah by the end of the year.
