By end-August, the number of internet users in Romania increased by some 120,000 people compared to the first quarter of the year, to 5.06 million users, which represents 23.9% of the country’s population, according to InternetWorldStats.
Romania is still last in the EU by internet penetration rates. The EU average rate is 51.8%. Higher in line there is Bulgaria with 28.7% and Hungary with 30.4%. at the opposite standpoint, the highest rate is to be found in Sweden, 75.6%, followed by Portugal with 73.8% and the Netherlands with 73.3%.
Worldwide, the leading position is secured by the United States and Canada with 70.2% of the population using the internet.
