Romania Has Worst Housing Conditions In EU – Eurostat

According to Eurostat, 42.5% of Romanians live in dwellings with no indoor flushing toilet and 41.2% have no bath or shower.

Over half of Romanians (55.3%) live in overcrowded dwellings and 22% live in dwellings with leaking roofs or dampness.

Romanian housing is doing well in terms of lighting as only 8.7% of Romanians live in dwellings where darkness is perceived as a problem.

According to EU statistics, 37.7% of Romanians live in flats, 60.7% live in houses and 1.6% in duplexes.

In the EU, 17.8% of Europeans live in overcrowded dwellings, 15.9% complain about dampness, 7.3% consider their dwelling is too dark and 3.5%, respectively 3.1% say they don’t have an indoor flushing toilet and a bath or shower.

Romania is significantly behind other EU countries in terms of minimum housing conditions. Romania is seconded by Bulgaria in terms of dwellings lacking indoor toilets, with 26%, and by Latvia in terms of dwellings lacking a bath or shower, with 18%.

By types of dwellings, 41.7% of Europeans live in flats, 34.3% in houses and 23% in duplexes.
