Romania Is Part Of New Heroin Distribution Network- Police Dept Head

Petre Toba, head of the Romanian General Police Department, said Tuesday that recent information indicates Romania was included in a new heroin distribution network operating from Afghanistan towards Western countries.

"As regards illegal drug dealing and consumption, Romania remains a transit country. Heroine traffic is still stable in the Balkan region, but recent information in this respect indicate Romania was included in a new heroin distribution network originating from Afghanistan towards Western countries," said Toba.

Toba highlighted synthetic drug dealing and consumption has increased over the years, mainly among youngsters in large crowded cities, adding Romania’s capital city Bucharest has become an actual “heroin magnet” compared to other towns across the country.

He also stressed the police force managed to take concrete and efficient measures in the fight against crimes, adding these measures triggered a better management of organized crime cases, namely human trafficking that involves sexual exploitation, labor exploitation, as well as infantile and Internet pornography.

Moreover, Toba said crimes in Romania that involve money laundering, neither decreased nor evolved, adding that, however, human trafficking saw a downward trend.
