Romania Jan Crude Steel Output Soars 86% To 275,000 MMT
Worldwide, crude steel output for January increased by 25.5% on the year to 109 million metric tons. China was the top steel producer, with 48.7 million metric tons, up 18.2% from January 2009.
In the EU, Germany’s crude steel production was 3.4 million metric tons, an increase of 27.7% compared to January 2009. Spain followed second with 1.4 million metric tons of crude steel, up 51.1% on the year.
In 2009, Romania’s crude steel production fell 46.6% on the year to 2.7 million metric tons. The eastern European country ranked 37th worldwide based on output volume.
The World Steel Association was founded in 1967 and is one of the most important steel organizations worldwide that reunites 180 producers, including 19 of the world’s largest 20 steelmakers, alongside with national and regional associations and research institutes.
The members of the organization produce annually approximately 85% of the steel delivered worldwide, according to World Steel Association’s website.
