Romania Leu Loses Gains Vs Euro, Exch Rate At 4.2636

Romania’s leu lost part of its early gains versus the euro mid trade Wednesday and the central bank’s reference weakened to 4.2636 units, a new five weeks low.

A lower rate, of 4.2642 per euro, was set on July 23.

Against the US dollar, the leu's indicative won 0.74% at 3.3335 units, from 3.3582 units Tuesday.

The leu opened higher against the euro Wednesday, tracking its peers in the region, but uncertainties regarding a possible government reshuffling limited the leu's appreciation.

At around GMT1000, the leu traded at 4.264/4.2655 per euro, after it hit an intraday high at 4.256/4.257 per euro.

On the money market Wednesday, overnight rates fell to 5.7%-6.2% a year.
